AMAZONdotCom; FAIL!? Maybe -
From [info]glass_icarus, here. Summarised quite well with edits by [info]such_heights, here ... and an article from the LA Times Amazon de-ranks gay friendly books

A list from commumnity Meta-Writer include Stephen Fry's Memoir, Brokeback Mountain, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Neil McKenna's 'Secret Life of Oscar Wilde' and a whole host of others which includes self help books for teens through to adults. Updated as the list grows longer! And Two .. Writers share their Amazon woes!

They have been classified as 'ADULT' material, however you can still find hard core HET porn on DVD and books. It isn't that you cannot buy them. Ohnononno ... you can but what it does is [QUOTE] from someone who caould say it better than me:
They have instituted an obviously discriminatory policy regarding what shows up on bestseller lists and the like. Non-explicit (and even non-fictional, historical books) have been deemed 'adult' and had their sales rankings removed, effectively removing them from the public eye.

Thank you [info]a_mael for the heads up and the links!

EDIT: On the other hand ... this might help see another side to the suation! of meta trolls and things

This isn't me trying to say what Amazon is doing is right - obviously censorship of this kind pisses me the hell off. (Pardon the language.) But as denizens of the internet, I found it interesting to stumble across a theory that this is an attack on Amazon as well as on the GLBT community. Can be worth keeping in mind?

thank you dear, I have added the link in an edit. I did wonder myself too! that this was similar to the things that have happened before.

Also reading some of the comments there it still is difficult to say one way or another. It kind of does explain the sudden blow up of things over a holiday weekend. The coincidence was one thing that made me wary.

Anyhow ...

*ganbare!* on your first day at work! you will have lots of fun! I am sure you will .. I am so looking forward to your future posts!

*loves and hugs* - I hope you managed some sleep too last night inspite of the nervousness and exhaustion.

Auuugh.

I just signed the petition to Amazon and will be passing this on. Wth, people? >_< Way to exclude and make invisible a large section of your 'entire customer base." >_< I have a sneaking suspicion that the subsection of the customer base they are talking about are not . . . big readers :P They may soon find that by trying to appease, perhaps preemptively, a vocal bigoted minority of that customer base, that they much more strongly alienate the rest of it, who have many other options . . . I've been trying to do all my book-buying at independents lately anyway, so we will hopefully continue to have them but there is no way I'm buying from Amazon until they fix this, preferably including an apology.

Did you have a good weekend? We did, for the most part, though we had to do our taxes today and then the Boy got a speeding ticket and has been down all day; it's his first and he's really embarrassed ^^" I blame Led Zeppelin, which was on the radio at the time.

I finally finished my stack of grading \o/

. . . too bad I will be getting another 35 papers this week O___o Only . . . 5 weeks to go? 4? I don't even know anymore T___T

. . . auugh . . . depressing and depressed :(

But conversely, I was excited to see you'd posted even if it is a frustrating topic--I will be linking friends to this, if you don't mind&hearts

*hugs*

Of course not although see edit! above! Still though the links look bona fide to me.

Yes I did want to post an Easter post! Our picnic got rained off but still we hung out, ate sandwiches and the children played ... and I got happily lightly buzzed from being plied with alcohol. There were a couple (ok maybe thre or four) lovely wines being handed around!

^__^. and Led Zep! Yaaay!!!!*has a sudden attack of nostalgia* Ahhh!

*hugs back*

Hey you!

I looked at the links and comment threads, and regardless, it had been going on since February, and trolls or 'glitches' aside, Amazon was informed of the problem and ostensibly ignored it, which is quite obnoxious. I'm happy to see action on it over the last couple of days, and you have nothing to feel bad about *snuggles*

How are things otherwise? I'm a little swamped, but I can see the end of the semester (3 weeks! I can't even believe it), so I need to start gearing up for summer research blitz \o/

Led Zeppelin was an integral part of growing up in our house ^_^ The IV in particular was much beloved, though III was pretty awesome as well ^_^

There was a lot of classic 70s music in our house when I was growing up . . . the Boy's family listened pretty much to 50s and earlier and classical music, so it's often hilarious to each of us when we see the huge gaping holes in the other's music knowledge ^^"

Augh! The ramble! It has me! ^^;

*hugs*

*laughs hysterically*

You know, I watched the first half . . . up to the oppai jelly and . . . got distracted watching the first season of the Quiz show ^^" I'm so glad you brought be back to this O__o

Ohno . . . popping Nino's balloon :DDDD

All of it! Oh good lord ^^" Seriously. A bunch of adorable 12 year old boys ^^" And Jun. Whose life is so hard . . . yet he loves it all.

The end of the semester seems like such a godsend . . . and there's so much left to do ^^" And the Boy and I are thinking of taking our first real vacation together this summer . . . if we ever get our act together and do plans ^^" We shall see how that goes . . . :P Neither of us is all that great at the whole . . . planning thing ^^"

*sigh*

Unfortunate, but not surprising. The LGBT-movement has won many victories in the US lately, a backlash was almost expected.

The religious right is getting threatened and more and more desperate, it becomes harder to vilify LGBT as they get more room in mainstream media and in peoples lives. This is great, leading to more people realizing that there is nothing wrong with being homo/bi. But also more dangerous because the attempts to stop this "revolution" will only become more and more extreme. I guess it could be comparable to the black power of the 60s or womens lib of the early 20'th century.

Thanks for sharing! Whatever the cause, this is unfair to authors and customers. Amazon needs to take care of it, even if the problem is caused by a third party. So even if it is a trolling issue, I think the petitions and protests are not inappropriate cos' if people keep quiet, Amazon will have no real motivation to fix the problem.

While I'm guessing the company itself has a non-discrimination policy, sometimes weird things happen, for whatever reason (either someone well-placed from within happens to use his/her position to further a personal or ideological agenda - not implying this is what happened in this case, but it's happened elsewhere) or someone from outside is intervening, as proposed. At any rate, I've e-mailed a complaint.
